Our History
Find out about the history of our 110-year-old building from water pumping station to performing arts venue.
The PumpHouse Theatre is located in Killarney Park on Lake Pupuke, Takapuna, Auckland.
Formerly a water pumping station, The PumpHouse supplied water to North Shore’s early settlers. In 1983, it was listed as a Category II Historic Building under The New Zealand Historic Places Trust.
In the 1970s, the building was saved from demolition by local residents and converted into a performing arts theatre. Administered by The North Shore Theatre Arts Trust, it operates as a programmed venue for hire for the performing arts.
