About
“Così” – Where Chaos Meets the Curtain
It’s 1971. Outside, the streets of Australia are alive with anti-Vietnam war protests. Inside a psychiatric facility, chaos reigns as young director Lewis attempts to stage Mozart’s Così fan tutte with a cast who can’t sing, can’t act, and definitely can’t speak Italian. But amidst the mayhem, something magical happens.
Così is a heartwarming, hilarious Australian classic by Louis Nowra, based on his own experience directing a motley crew of patients in a one-off opera performance. A brilliant ensemble cast brings this joyous, uplifting comedy to life, proving that even in the most unexpected places, music and art can spark transformation.
From Phoenix Theatre, producers of 2024’s successful “Call Girls” at The PumpHouse, this is theatre at its funniest, most poignant, and utterly irresistible. Friendship, love, and a dash of opera – what could possibly go wrong?
🕒 Runtime: 2 hours 40 minutes including interval
R16: This production contains strong language and themes consistent with 1971 and a mental institution setting.
