About

Rose Northey is an Auckland based poet who is an active part of the spoken word poetry scene in Auckland. After growing up in amateur theatres, Rose discovered spoken word poetry in 2015 and instantly fell in love with its flexibility of expression and performance aspects. Her work has been showcased in theatres, bars, libraries, cafes and Auckland’s comedy club. She runs the group “What’s Happening Auckland Poetry?” which enables people to access all of Auckland’s many poetry events from one location. She has been part of the Te Oro Poetry community, featured in SUP (stand up poetry) and as a creative for the Comet Space in Ponsonby.

Rose was voted People’s Choice at the 2018 Going West Writer’s Festival.

Rose will talk about her experience of discovering spoken word poetry and some of the misconceptions around this art form.

She will share her creative process and will perform 4 of her own original works. Rose will paint a picture of Auckland’s poetry landscape – which is much more alive than what one might think, and let we the audience know what can do in order to hear more or indeed become more involved with performance poetry.

About Creative Talks

Stories are at the heart of creativity. The PumpHouse Theatre’s series of Creative Talks is an informal early-evening event where local artists and creatives share their stories and ideas with our community whether they have a lifelong passion or are new to the arts.

This programme of free Creative Talks spotlights a wide range of the arts, giving audiences a behind the scenes insight into the world of the creative process.

From multicultural arts to theatrical performance, by way of actors, authors, poets and playwrights, there is something for everyone with an interest in the arts and what inspires and drives creativity.

Creative Talks are held monthly at The PumpHouse Theatre and entry is free.
