About
Debbie Dunsford – A History of Milford

Debbie began researching the history of Milford to raise awareness of the suburb’s colourful history as an Auckland beach and entertainment destination. She will discuss the era of the 1910s to 1950s, when crowds flocked to Milford’s beach and entertainment venues. These were decades when fading Victorian rules about proper behaviour were being well and truly challenged by younger generations. In this talk, Debbie will trace the development of Milford’s reputation as a louche beachside village on the edge of Auckland.
Debbie is an Auckland historian who lives in Milford. She has published commissioned histories on the suburb of Mount Albert and the rural district of Kumeu.
About Creative Talks
The PumpHouse Theatre’s Creative Talks series aims to bring the community together with creatives to discover more about their process and what inspires them. Each event explores what goes on behind the scenes to create their unique art. There is something for everyone with an interest in the arts and the inspiration that drives creativity.
This year, we have split the talks into two seasons – three in Autumn and three in Spring.
The event is free with tea and coffee provided.
