About

Fifty years ago, (1973), John Hanlon introduced himself to New Zealand with the song DAMN THE DAM.

What followed was a brief but stellar career that included a handful of Top Ten hits and two Double-Gold selling albums: GARDEN FRESH and HIGHER TRAILS along with an impressive number of industry awards.

— Three Recording Composer of the Year Awards in succession: 1974 Is it Natural, 1975 Higher Trails, 1976 Nightlife
— Two APRA Silver Scrolls in succession: 1974 Lovely Lady, 1975 Windsongs
— Single of the Year 1973: Damn the Dam
— Album of the Year 1975: Higher Trails

Then in 1977, at the height of his career, John walked away from the stage in search of a more private life. But the songs kept coming and since dropping out of the limelight he continued to release some critically acclaimed albums https://johnhanlon.co.nz/albums/

His last album, a collection of 23 new songs written since his return to New Zealand, was NAKED TRUTHS in 2021.

Now, after lying low for two generations, John is beginning a series of intimate acoustic concerts around New Zealand.

Just John on guitar, occasionally joined by his wife, Yana Zuyeva, on violin, playing songs old and new songs stitched together with some entertaining yarns.

This will not just be a night for John Hanlon fans from the 70s, but an unmissable evening for anyone interested in how songs are born.
