About
The PumpHouse Theatre is delighted to have renowned NZ actor Rawiri Paratene (Ngāpuhi) joining us in September for Kōrero Pūrākau – Māori Storytelling.
In the role of story-teller, Rawiri will share traditional Māori myths and legends alongside young local actors Kees Grootjans, Darien Aipolani-Willams and Levi Kereama who will interpret and re-enact the stories.
Rawiri Paratene is one of New Zealand’s most respected Māori artists. He played the role of Koro (Grandfather) in the multi award-winning hit film Whale Rider and has recently returned from a year-long tour; the only New Zealand actor amongst an international cast who travelled to 196 countries with The Globe performing in Hamlet to mark the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death.
This will be a bilingual: Te Reo Māori – English production especially designed for primary school-aged children with daytime shows available for school and EEC groups.
