World premiere from the writer of Phoenix Theatre’s smash hit at The PumpHouse, “Call Girls”. There’s a pub in rural Chipton Valley called the Ramshackle Bar, where the telly on the wall doesn’t work properly, and the publican-come-councillor, a bloke called Bryce, reckons violence is never the answer, right before he thumps it. That’s about as sophisticated as things get around here. Until two local shearers, Biff and Cal, somehow find their way into the World Championship and decide the final should be held right here in Godzone, Chipton Valley. Population: not many, and most of them drink at the Ramshackle.

Suddenly everyone in town’s got something to prove. There’s a gambling-addicted federation boss, an Australian shearer with a trophy wife and an ego to match, a shepherd who’s very familiar with the local botanicals, and a hairdressing barmaid who’s been trying to get out of this town since before the play started.

Shaving Ewe is a comedy about small towns punching above their weight, blokes who take trans Tasman rivalry extremely seriously, and what happens when the rest of the country is about to be watching on the small screen. Come and take a peek inside the woolshed to see if Chipton Valley pulls it off, or watch it all go spectacularly wrong. This is a modern Kiwi classic from the heartland.
