About
Graeme Lay
Author
Graeme Lay was born in Foxton in 1944. He was raised in coastal Taranaki and attended Victoria University, graduating in 1967. He began writing fiction in the mid-1970s and was mentored by Frank Sargeson.
Since then, working from his home on the North Shore, Graeme has published both fiction and non-fiction. His more than forty books include nine novels for adults, five for young adults, several collections of short stories and travel writing and many works of non-fiction. His short stories have been widely anthologised in New Zealand and overseas.
His best-known work is his best-selling trilogy of novels based on the life of explorer James Cook. His latest novel, Larry & Viv, is based on the Old Vic Theatre Company’s Australasian tour, in 1948.
CREATIVE TALKS
Stories are at the heart of creativity. The PumpHouse Theatre’s series of Creative Talks is an informal early-evening event where local artists and creatives share their stories and ideas with our community whether they have a lifelong passion or are new to the arts.
This programme of free Creative Talks spotlights a wide range of the arts, giving audiences a behind the scenes insight into the world of the creative’s process.
From multicultural arts to theatrical performance, by way of actors, authors, poets and playwrights, there is something for everyone with an interest in the arts and what inspires and drives creativity.
