About
St Mary’s College present a production of Daughters of Heaven by Michelanne Forster.
Daughters of Heaven is based on a true event about two young teenage girls who lived in Christchurch, New Zealand in the 1950’s. Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme have formed an unusual friendship, they have based their lives around a heavenly fantasy world that they choose to live in, where things are better off in their own mind.
In Act One, we see Pauline Parker’s home life and her dislike of her parents, especially her mother. Through her friendship with Juliet, we notice Pauline beginning to compare her life to Juliet Hulme’s. We also see how their innocent friendship grows into something more that ends with an unsettling murder.
In Act Two, we see how the aftermath of the murder impacts the whole community. The girls’ imagination and ambition wind everyone up in a tough situation with battling to find out the truth.
