This is the 28th year of Auckland’s Shakespeare in the Park brought to you by Shoreside Theatre – the only outdoor Shakespeare in Auckland.

The Bard of Avon’s works were not written to be read but written to be experienced! And where better to see it than a traditional outdoor amphitheatre in the heart of Takapuna, with free tickets for children 12 and under.

Once again Shoreside is aiming to provide a summer evening’s entertainment beyond compare with gorgeous costumes and amazing actors. After surviving COVID and flooding we’d like to invite you all to return to The PumpHouse Outdoor Amphitheatre for a festival of memorable Shakespeare.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Book for A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Directed by Grae Burton

Perhaps Shakespeare’s best-known work with themes of magic, masks, mayhem and misunderstanding. A fantastical comedy with a multilayered examination of love and its vagaries – which results in a happy ending for all the lovers. Added to this is a troop of amateur players determined to give a performance worthy of a Duke’s wedding celebration!

Come join the Fairie Band and be enchanted once again.

Measure for Measure

Book for Measure for Measure

Directed by James Bell

A play for today, Measure for Measure is a dark comedy that explores the abuse of power (especially over women) and how it can be resolved for the better. Secret identities, sinister manipulations and a host of intriguingly named comic characters all come together in what is sometimes referred to as a ‘problem play’ – in that it brings up a difficulty and then solves it.

⏰ Running Time: both shows are approx. 2 hours 30 mins with an interval

About The PumpHouse Outdoor Amphitheatre

The PumpHouse Amphitheatre is tucked in behind the French Rendez-vous Café building next to The PumpHouse main theatre. Access is via the courtyard stairs adjacent to the main theatre. Wheelchair access to the amphitheatre is via a path on the park side of the complex.

Tickets to performances in the amphitheatre are general admission i.e., seating is ‘first come first served’. The amphitheatre has tiered wooden bench seating, with cushions available. Seats do not have back support. If you require a seat with back support, please advise the ushers when you arrive at the venue. They will do their best to provide a chair for you in the back row. Similarly, if you have any other special requirements, e.g., mobility access assistance, please see one of the ushers when you arrive.

Audience members often bring cushions to sit on for greater comfort and blankets in case the evening cools down towards the end of the show. If the mozzies are biting this summer, it might be a good idea to have repellent on hand.

Sorry, BYO alcohol isn’t permitted under our Liquor License, but the French Rendez-vous Café Satellite Bar will be open!

In the event of persistent bad weather, the performance may move inside the main theatre. If the weather looks changeable, bring a raincoat and something waterproof to sit on. If there’s a passing shower, the performance may go ahead outdoors as planned. If a performance is cancelled, tickets may be transferred to another date in the season without incurring a transfer fee.

💡 This event is General Admission, which means you cannot pre-book a specific seat. You can choose where to sit when you enter the theatre.
